Although < Even though : 더 격식있는 표현입니다. 

though : 문장 끝에서 '...~하긴 하지만' 이라는 뜻으로 사용됩니다.

The quick-witted makers of the US cartoon family The Simpsons are facing legal action. The Brazilian tourist board complained about an episode, which they claim, contained negative stereotypes of the country and its people. Even though The Simpsons is one of the most popular shows on Brazilian TV, viewers were seeing red after watching the half-hour episode. Despite protests from Jose Eduardo Guinle, the hot-headed President of Brazil’s tourist board, the show aired as scheduled. Guinle claimed the show went too far when one of the main characters, Homer Simpson, was shown being robbed by street children, and then later kidnapped by an unlicensed taxi driver as he walked through the slums of Rio de Janeiro. In addition, Rio’s police force was portrayed as being lazy, unhelpful and self-centered. “It’s one thing to stereotype Brazilians as being samba dancing, football-playing beach bums but quite another to portray our citizens as dangerous and lawless.” Guinle was quoted as saying. “Although we realize it was a joke, the show may have undermined a $30 million advertising campaign to attract visitors to the city.” As yet, the Brazilian tourist board has not reported a drop in travelers visiting the country despite the negative image the show promoted.            In spite of receiving many complaints during its long fifteen-year run, The Simpsons continues to use national stereotypes as a source of humor. Other stereotypes that have upset viewers in the past have included Sumo-loving, two-faced Japanese people. Levelheaded, bland, Canadians and laid-back, crocodile-hunting Australians have also been made fun of. “I think some people are too sensitive,” said an old-time fan of the show. “Stereotyping is something we all do. When I think of the British, I see a drunken football hooligan with bad teeth. A Frenchman, I see a snail-eating, stuck-up onion seller who won’t speak English though they often can. Of course, I know it’s not really true, but it’s all good fun if done in the right spirit.” Something people tend to forget is that although the show does use negative stereotypes, the most insulting stereotype is that of the average American family man portrayed by Homer. It seems that the image of an overweight, narrow-minded, lazy husband and father isn’t particularly upsetting to American people.
